With the new improvements in the WhatsApp messenger app, the most popular of its kind in the world, group administrators on the platform now have more control over the groups they created. As explained in an earlier post, the new changes allow group administrators on WhatsApp to have more control of the content and users in group spaces.
The update, which was posted on the 15th of May, gave highlights of the major update that empowers group administrators on WhatsApp, especially those who originally created the group. Included in the updates are; Group Description, Admin Controls, Group Catch Up as well as Participant Search.
The new update also comes with a feature that allows group administrators to remove admin permissions of other group participants. As if that is not enough, another powerful core feature introduced in WhatsApp groups is made evident in the case where group creators can no longer be removed (by other privileged Admins) from the group they started (Wow!).
And finally, a high-geared security feature was also considered worthy of inclusion. The WhatsApp blog added to the same note: “We’ve also introduced protection so users can’t be repeatedly added to groups they’ve left. So what actually goes into the newly updated features? As found in the following extracts from the WhatsApp official blog post. The items in the list below throw more light on the current updates:
- Group description: A short blurb found under group info that allows you to set the purpose, guidelines, or topics for the group. When a new person joins a group, the description will show up at the top of the chat.
- Admin controls: In group settings, there’s now a control that allows admins to restrict who can change the group’s subject, icon, and description.
- Group catch up: When you’ve been away from a group chat, quickly catch up on messages that mention or reply to you by tapping on a new @ button that appears at the bottom right corner of the chat.
- Participant search: Find anyone in a group by searching for participants on the group info page.
- Admins can now remove admin permissions of other group participants, and group creators can no longer be removed from the group they started.
